In memory of Pete Postlethwaite: Age of Stupid

Age of Stupid

The late great Pete Postlethwaite stars in the Age of Stupid

The Cooperative, in association with Transition Sherborne, are showing The Age of Stupid on 30 March at Digby Memorial Hall, Digby Road, Sherborne, DT9 3NL at 7pm. Entry is free with a complementary glass of wine.

This is a must see film about climate change and the end of cheap oil. The film stars Pete Postlethwaite as a man living on his own in 2055 looking at old archive footage and asking why we didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance. It is a film about real people and real situations, such as Al Duvernay who was in the New Orleans flood and worked for an oil company, and Fernand Pareau, an 82 year old mountain guide who explains how he has seen the Mont Blanc glacier recede.

Event organiser Fay Bowden from the Cooperative says the film is open to all, but reservations are necessary. To book a seat please contact Fay’s team at membership.sw@co-operative.coop or 01884 266892.

Sherborne and District CPRE

Sherborne and District CPRE getting ready for a litter pick in Simons Road

The project was started at the beginning of 2010 in response to complaints from an invited audience at a forum held in St. Paul’s Hall. The Town Councillors from East Ward, Cllr. Peter Rhodes and Cllr. Jon Andrews, joined forces with the Sherborne branch of CPRE and Sherborne Area Partnership to address this problem. Initially it was agreed to send a group of litter pickers to certain areas of the town where the problem seemed most acute. This resulted in 15 bags of litter in one two hour session! It was then decided that the project should expand to cover the whole town and involve the Town Council, the local traders and the community at large. Dig Up Sherborne

Grow Your Own Food

Dig Up Sherborne is a 2011 project encouraging residents of the town and surrounding area to quite literally dig up Sherborne! Not the roads (though that might have been useful during last year’s Arctic conditions). No. Gardens, patios, window sills, shared spaces even. Initially starting with a series of talks at Zest Cafe, Dig Up Sherborne is aimed at beginners with little or no experience of gardening. Local experts will share their knowledge on all aspects of growing fruit and vegetables.

Dig Up Sherborne

Learn how to grow your own food

Everyone is welcome. Even with a small garden or just window boxes the monthly talks will guide you through preparing your space, choosing easy plants to grow, planning your year and much more, with the speaker answering as many of your questions as possible.

We’ll provide a welcome pack to help you start growing your own produce, with seeds, recycled pots and seed compost.
