Stop The Litter Newsletter (March 2011)

Sherborne and District CPRE

The project was started at the beginning of 2010 in response to complaints from an invited audience at a forum held in St. Paul’s Hall. The Town Councillors from East Ward, Cllr. Peter Rhodes and Cllr. Jon Andrews, joined forces with the Sherborne branch of CPRE and Sherborne Area Partnership to address this problem. Initially it was agreed to send a group of litter pickers to certain areas of the town where the problem seemed most acute. This resulted in 15 bags of litter in one two hour session! It was then decided that the project should expand to cover the whole town and involve the Town Council, the local traders and the community at large. . . . → Read More: Stop The Litter Newsletter (March 2011)

Dig Up Sherborne

Dig Up Sherborne is a 2011 project encouraging residents of the town and surrounding area to quite literally dig up Sherborne! Not the roads (though that might have been useful during last year’s Arctic conditions). No. Gardens, patios, window sills, shared spaces even. Initially starting with a series of talks at Zest Cafe, Dig Up Sherborne is aimed at beginners with little or no experience of gardening. Local experts will share their knowledge on all aspects of growing fruit and vegetables. . . . → Read More: Dig Up Sherborne

Productive Trees for the Communities of Sherborne Area

The Community Orchard (or Productive Tree Planting) group is interested in helping set up schemes for the planting and long term maintenance of productive trees, primarily fruit and nut trees, for people living in the Sherborne area. The aim is to help provide people with a source of free food and a new productive space where community events such as harvesting and pressing can take place. We hope that these spaces will become central to the communities they serve, acting to engage people of all ages in building resilience and sustainability, while furthering a sense of togetherness into their communities. . . . → Read More: Productive Trees for the Communities of Sherborne Area
