Green Sherborne For local people concerned about the environment, and a website for organisations that support them. Ecology, sustainability and community are the key. Our goal is to become an online resource to publicise news and events, projects and groups, and provide a source of reference. Welcome to Sherborne Green.

On 20 August the town council passed a resolution to approve the development by SCOG of a Community Orchard within the Quarr Nature Reserve.
The Community Orchard Group is moving forward at last. After two consultation events with the residents surrounding the Lenthay Road site it became apparent that the site was not suitable. Local residents and children regularly use the field for sport and community activities. . . . → Read More: Community Orchard Update

Always seeking new ways to encourage local, sustainable food initiatives which may benefit the community for years to come, Transition Sherborne have started a Community Orchard Group and are keen to work with local residents who are interested in setting up and running Sherborne’s first community orchard. Whilst searching for a suitable location, we have recently discovered a green space next to the allotments, between South Avenue and Lenthay Close which could prove an ideal site. This area already has some native trees and bushes and could have lots of potential for growing a wide range of delicious edibles! . . . → Read More: Time for a Community Orchard?

Dig Up Sherborne meets again, but this time at the Butterfly House in Castle Gardens. Steve Fry hoped last time to show us some of the larger productive plants available, but due to the impracticality of lugging whole trees to the Zest Café in the back of his car this has had to wait to this month’s talk. Do come and find out more about the sorts of plants you can plant in your garden that are both productive and beautiful. For regular attendees, please note the change of time and venue. . . . → Read More: Productive Planting 2

Very much an antidote to The Age of Stupid shown in March, InTransition1.0 is a detailed film about the Transition Movement, filmed by those people around the world who have started rebuilding their local economies and communities with creativity, imagination and humour. It is positive, solutions focused, viral and fun. The 50-minute film will be followed by an open forum to share ideas on how the Transition Movement can benefit Sherborne and the surrounding area. . . . → Read More: The Antidote Film to Age of Stupid: InTransition1.0
