Green Sherborne

For local people concerned about the environment, and a website for organisations that support them. Ecology, sustainability and community are the key. Our goal is to become an online resource to publicise news and events, projects and groups, and provide a source of reference. Welcome to Sherborne Green.

Productive Planting 2

Tue 14 June 2011 7:00pm
Dig Up Sherborne meets again, but this time at the Butterfly House in Castle Gardens. Steve Fry hoped last time to show us some of the larger productive plants available, but due to the impracticality of lugging whole trees to the Zest Café in the back of his car this has had to wait to this month’s talk. Do come and find out more about the sorts of plants you can plant in your garden that are both productive and beautiful. For regular attendees, please note the change of time and venue. . . . → Read More: Productive Planting 2

Our neighbours at Transition Sturminster Newton are lending a hand at the Anonymous Travelling Market at Gold Hill Organic Farm in Child Okeford. Gaia, the Cabaret (Transition Dorchester)

Our neighbours at Transition Dorchester are showing Gaia, the Cabaret, described as the most fun you can have with science. Peter Horton covers 14 billion years in the space of an hour and a half, and shows us that we humans take ourselves far too seriously: as far as Gaia is concerned, the bacteria are far more important than we are, and they are the ones having the last laugh! . . . → Read More: Gaia, the Cabaret (Transition Dorchester)

The Antidote Film to Age of Stupid: InTransition1.0

Very much an antidote to The Age of Stupid shown in March, InTransition1.0 is a detailed film about the Transition Movement, filmed by those people around the world who have started rebuilding their local economies and communities with creativity, imagination and humour. It is positive, solutions focused, viral and fun. The 50-minute film will be followed by an open forum to share ideas on how the Transition Movement can benefit Sherborne and the surrounding area. . . . → Read More: The Antidote Film to Age of Stupid: InTransition1.0

In memory of Pete Postlethwaite: Age of Stupid

Age of Stupid

This is a must see film about climate change and the end of cheap oil. The film stars Pete Postlethwaite as a man living on his own in 2055 looking at old archive footage and asking why we didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance. It is a film about real people and real situations, such as Al Duvernay who was in the New Orleans flood and worked for an oil company, and Fernand Pareau, an 82 year old mountain guide who explains how he has seen the Mont Blanc glacier recede. . . . → Read More: In memory of Pete Postlethwaite: Age of Stupid
